Intro:
This is the OFFICIAL website for the classic hard rock band BARAKADE. Featured here are downloadable MP3s, videos, photos of the group, and more. Although the band is no longer together, thier powerful music lives on forever. There have been hints of a colaborative songwriting reunion, and some lost tracks have recently resurfaced from the 90's. There is talk that these lost tracks are being reworked for release later this year, so keep checking back for updates!
History of the Band:
Barakade was a five piece hard rock Band formed in the mid 80's by three teenagers from Long Island, New York: Drew Barrett, vocals, Vinny DeStefano, guitars, and Edward C. Wahl, keyboards. Although the glam sceeen was full blown during their hey day, and image was critical to any band's success at that time, the music of Barakade was always front and center for this group. The songwriting, recordings and performances are what kept the band together for more than a decade. There were several bassists and drummers over the years that were a part of Barakade, but most notably were the following rythym sections: Bassist Extrodinare or Big E, Edward Nasello, and Tom Boscio on drums & again The Big E & Vinny Ricardella on drums. Kyle Wilson on bass and Vinny Ricardella on drums; and the final line up: the great nordic viking bassist, Brent Nicholaysen, and drummer Guy Lafontaine, and also again Brent N. on bass and Brian Montheard on drums. On almost every Barakade recording, backgound vocals were critical to the overall sound of the group, and Corinne Barrett appears on most songs blending so well with her brother Drew.
Barakade commercially released their first and only CD, Volume 1, in 1995. The 12 song disc was recorded at Legend Studios, mixed at Tiki Studios and mastered by the world famous George Marino at Sterling Sound in Manhattan, who has mastered albums for bands such as Journey and Metallica. Barakade Voume 1 was released and distributed by MegaRock records in Japan and Europe, and here in the states by Magellan Records. The band received enormous airplay on college & many commercial radio stations with singles like "Somone Will Pay," "I Still Dream of You" and "Keep Running Away." In addition to radio play, the video for the song "Someone Will Pay," featured here on this site, was being played all over independent & cable video channels across the USA. Barakade had played some high profile shows in1995/96, and their final show was to a packed house of fans in NYC's famous China Club. The celebs were out that night in force and Bruce Willis and some of the band members exchanged words because the band wouldnt invite Bruce on stage to join them in song. Also Zack Wilde from Ozzy had chilled with the band.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and so it was with Barakade when band members all parted ways in 1996. But the music will never be forgotten and is still enjoyed by fans across the globe today. My gut tells me that this is not the end for this group, and that at some point in the future, new Barakade music will find its way to the fans.
